North American FJ-4B Fury The North American FJ-4 Fury was a swept-wing carrier-capable fighter-bomber for the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The final development in a lineage that included the Air Force's F-86 Sabre, the FJ-4 shared its general layout and engine with the earlier FJ-3, but featured an entirely new wing design and was a vastly different design in its final embodiment. First flight October 1954. The Museum’s FJ-4B is Bureau# 143568. Built in 1956, this aircraft served with Navy and Marine Corps squadrons including ones in California and Hawaii. The last of these planes entered naval service in 1958. Col. Sylvester Lapkewiecz, a member of the Museum, and also former Commanding Officer of VMF 218 at NAS Willow Grove, flew this plane.
